Directions to Men's Hockey Road Venues

Directions to road games for RPI Men's Hockey. All these assume you can make it from wherever you are to the main arteries leading out of the Capital District, such as I-87, NY-7, NY-2 and the New York Thruway. Distances shown are from Troy and are approximate. Your mileage may vary.

Brown

If at Yale the night before: Find I-95 North, which heads towards Providence and pick up the directions below at **. Distance: 105 miles.

If coming from Troy: I-90 East to New York Thruway-Berkshire Extension (I-90) to Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90). Turnpike East to Exit 10A, then take MA-146 South, which leads all the way to Providence (on RI-146). When RI-146 merges with I-95 South, stay to the left. ** Exit I-95 at the I-195 interchange (Exit 20) and take I-195 East towards Cape Cod, then get off at Exit 3 (Gano Street). Go to the bottom of the ramp and turn right. At the fourth light take a left onto Angel Street. Go up the hill and take a right on to Hope Street. Meehan Auditorium is 1/4 mile down on the right side. Distance: 180 miles.

Clarkson

If at St. Lawrence the night before: Get on US-11 North. Follow US-11 all the way to Potsdam and take a right at the main entrance to the Clarkson campus (it is indicated by brick walls labeled with "Clarkson University"). Continue straight until there is a large parking lot on the right side. At the end of that parking lot is the Cheel Center. Distance: 10 miles.

If coming from Troy: I-87 North to Exit 23. After exiting head west and follow the signs leading to NY-28. Take NY-28 North into Indian Lake, then pick up NY-30. Follow NY-30 to Tupper Lake, then take NY-3 West. After about 18 miles, take a right onto NY-56 North and follow it to Potsdam. At the second light after passing SUNY Potsdam, take a left and follow US-11 South. At the downtown intersection (in front of the Clarkson Inn), bear left. Continue on US-11. At the next major intersection (it is a little odd), go left and remain on US-11 until the left appears for the main entrance to the Clarkson campus (it is indicated by brick walls labeled with "Clarkson University"). Enter the campus and continue straight until there is a large parking lot on the right side. At the end of that parking lot is the Cheel Center. Distance: 200 miles.

Colgate

If at Cornell the night before: Get on NY-13, which runs through downtown Ithaca, and head north. NY-13 goes to Cortland and I-81. Take I-81 North to Exit 15. Then follow US-20 East (about 35 miles) until it intersects NY-46. Take NY-46 South until it intersects NY-12B, then follow NY-12B South and pick up the directions below at **. Distance: 80 miles.

If coming from Troy: New York Thruway (I-90) West to Exit 33 (Verona-Rome-Oneida). Follow NY-365 West to Oneida Castle, then take NY-5 West (briefly) to NY-46 South. Continue on NY-46 South until it intersects with NY-12B, then follow NY-12B South. ** NY-12B leads directly into Hamilton. Drive through town; go past a pond on the left. Go through the light. Most of the college is on the left. Starr Rink is on the right (not signed, but with the other Colgate athletic facilities). It is the second curved-roofed building. NOTE: The hospital is further beyond Starr Rink. Turn around if the hospital appears. Distance: 130 miles.

Cornell

New York Thruway (I-90) West to Exit 25A. I-88 South to Exit 8, then take NY-206 West until it intersects with NY-79 near Whitney Point (about 30 miles). Follow NY-79 into Ithaca. After passing the Mitchell Street, then Eddy Street, intersections, there is an intersection with Stewart and Green. Go right onto Stewart Avenue and up the hill. When the road forks (Stewart left, Campus Road right), take Campus Road to the right. Keep right at the next fork (West Avenue) and go around the bend. At the intersection with Central stay on Campus Road and Lynah Rink appears farther ahead on the left. Before Lynah is a parking garage on the right. Distance: 190 miles.

Dartmouth

If at Harvard the night before: Find I-93 North. The Mass Pike (I-90), heading east, leads to I-93 (the Big Dig). Follow I-93 North into New Hampshire. At Exit 11 in New Hampshire, leave I-93 and take I-89 North. Shortly after crossing into Vermont, I-89 intersects I-91. Take I-91 North and pick up the directions below at **. Distance: 125 miles.

If coming from Troy: NY-7 East to near the Vermont border. When NY-7 takes a right at an intersection, head straight on the Bennington Bypass, labeled TO VT-279. Follow VT-279 until it intersects US-7. Take US-7 North into Manchester, and then follow VT-11 across the state, past the major ski areas, until it intersects I-91. ** Follow I-91 North to Exit 13. Head east after exiting; go across the bridge and up a hill. Go through the first light, snake through campus, and at the second light take a right onto NH-120 (South Park Street). Continue on NH-120 South to the next traffic light, then take a left at this light to enter the Thompson Arena parking lot. Distance: 145 miles.

Harvard

I-90 East to New York Thruway-Berkshire Extension (I-90) to Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90). Follow the Turnpike until Exit 18, the Allston/Cambridge exit, and follow the signs to Allston/Brighton, which leads onto Cambridge Street. Turn right at the second set of lights onto North Harvard Street and continue for one mile to Harvard Stadium Gate 6. Turn left into the gate and follow the road around the stadium and the Bright Hockey Center is ahead on the left. Distance: 180 miles.

Miami (Ohio)

New York Thruway (I-90) West. Stay on I-90 through Pennsylvania and into Ohio. At Exit 188 leave I-90 and follow I-271 South until it terminates at I-71. Follow I-71 South almost to Cincinnati. At Exit 17 leave I-71 and follow I-275 West. Leave I-275 at Exit 33 and head north on US-27, which leads to Oxford. At the south end of Oxford, turn left on Chestnut Street (OH-732) and proceed west approximately 1/4 mile to Oak Street. Turn right onto Oak and continue north approximately 1/4 mile to Goggin Ice Arena on the left. Distance: 735 miles.

New Hampshire

I-90 East to New York Thruway-Berkshire Extension (I-90) to Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90). Turnpike East to Exit 10 (I-290). Take I-290 East to I-495 (Exit 26). Follow I-495 North to I-95 just south of the New Hampshire border. Follow I-95 North into New Hampshire. Take Exit 4 (left side of highway), the "Spaulding Turnpike" exit. Take Exit 6W off Spaulding Turnpike towards Concord/Durham, which is US-4 West. Go approximately four miles and continue straight through a traffic light (Madbury Road) and proceed another 1.5 miles to the NH-155A exit, marked "University of New Hampshire." Take a left turn off the ramp and proceed approximately one mile. The Whittemore Center is on the left. Distance: 230 miles.

Princeton

If at Quinnipiac the night before: Find I-95 South. I-91 South leads to I-95. Take I-95 South and after entering New York there is a choice of routes. The direct route is through NYC by staying on I-95, which leads to the George Washington Bridge. Continue on I-95 until the New Jersey Turnpike, then take the Turnpike south and pick up the directions below at **. To avoid the city, exit I-95 at Exit 21 and take I-287 across the Tappan Zee Bridge. Leave I-287 (now the New York Thruway) at Exit 13 and follow the Palisades Parkway South into New Jersey. This terminates at I-95. Follow I-95 West until the New Jersey Turnpike. ** Follow the Turnpike South to Exit 9. Stay in the right lane while approaching the tollbooth, so as to make a right turn onto NJ-18. Soon after entering NJ-18, remain to the left of the fork in the highway. This leads over US-1 and it is necessary to bear right immediately for the exit to US-1 South. These three turns occur in rapid succession. Follow US-1 South into Penns Neck until reaching Washington Road (CR-571). Turn right onto Washington Road towards Princeton. Take a left onto Faculty Road, then a right onto Elm Drive. At the circle, go around 270 degrees (a left from Elm) and head straight. Go behind the parking garage and Baker Rink is ahead on the right. Distance: 145 miles.

If coming from Troy: New York Thruway (I-87) South to Exit 15. Follow I-287 South to Exit 17, then take US-206 South into Princeton. In the town US-206 takes a right turn to continue south. At this intersection, take a left onto Nassau Street. Less than 1/2 mile later take a right onto Washington Road. Follow Washington Road down the hill to Faculty Road, then take a right onto Faculty Road, then a right onto Elm Drive. At the circle, go around 270 degrees (a left from Elm) and head straight. Go behind the parking garage and Baker Rink is ahead on the right. Distance: 195 miles.

Quebec (Pavillon de la Jeunesse)

I-87 North to the US-Canada border. Cross the border and continue north on Autoroute 15 towards Montreal. Before Montreal, at Exit 42, leave Autoroute 15 and follow Autoroute 30 East. Depart Autoroute 30 at Exit 125 and follow Autoroute 20 East towards Quebec City. Just south of Quebec City take Exit 312N and head north on Autoroute 73, going across the St. Lawrence River into Quebec City. Autoroute 40 joins Autoroute 13, causing the exit numbers to suddenly jump into the 300's. At Exit 313, leave Autoroute 73/40 for Quebec Route 175 South. Approximately 1.5 miles later, exit Quebec Route 175 at Exit 4E and head east on Boulevard Wilfrid-Hamel. The Pavillon de la Jeunesse is in the ExpoCite, on the left after passing underneath the highway. Distance: 365 miles.

Quinnipiac

I-90 East to New York Thruway-Berkshire Extension (I-90) to Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90). Turnpike East to Exit 4, then take I-91 South to Exit 10. Follow CT-40 West (Mount Carmel Connector) until it terminates at CT-10, then follow CT-10 (Whitney Avenue) North. Stay on CT-10 for 3/4 mile, then take a left onto Sherman Avenue. The entrance to the TD Banknorth Sports Center is approximately 1/4 mile on the right and is well signed. Distance: 155 miles.

St. Lawrence

I-87 North to Exit 23. After exiting head west and follow the signs leading to NY-28. Take NY-28 North into Indian Lake, picking up NY-30. Follow NY-30 to Tupper Lake, then take NY-3 West. After about 18 miles, take a right onto NY-56 North and follow it into Colton, then take NY-68. After about 3.5 miles there is a fork in the road and NY-68 goes to the right. Bear left onto Pierrepont-Canton Road, which eventually becomes Brick Chapel Road and intersects with Canton-Russell Road. Continue north on Canton-Russell Road and after crossing the bridge St. Lawrence University appears ahead. Take a left onto Maple Street. At the end of Maple, turn left onto Miner Street. Appleton Arena appears shortly on the left. Distance: 210 miles.

Union

NY-7 West. Bear right when choosing at the Union Street/NY-7 fork. This is Union Street. After approximately 2.5 miles, there is a light with the college entrance just ahead on the right. Do not go into the college, continue straight and shortly reach the intersection with Seward Place. Take a right onto Seward. At the next major intersection (with Nott Street), take a right. Entrances to the college and parking soon appear on the right. Achilles Rink is to the east after parking. Just follow the people. Distance: 20 miles.

Yale

I-90 East to New York Thruway-Berkshire Extension (I-90) to Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90). Turnpike East to Exit 4, then take I-91 South into New Haven. Leave I-91 at Exit 3, the Trumbull Connector exit. Make a right onto Whitney Avenue (the second main intersection), then take a left onto Sachem Street. Ingalls Rink appears on the right at the corner of Prospect and Sachem Streets. Distance: 155 miles.
