WRPI, 91.5 FM in Troy is the flagship station for RPI (Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute) sporting events. We provide complete coverage of RPI Football and Men's Hockey every season and an abbreviated schedule for Baseball and Women's Hockey. These pages have been established to help RPI fans, both within our listening area and around the world, follow these sports all season long.WRPI has been broadcasting sports ever since it became an FM station on November 1, 1957. On that date a tape of a football game was broadcast as part of a 'mosaic' of sound that demonstrated the broad potential of the new FM station. Sports broadcasts of RPI athletics owe their birth to the updates provided on WHAZ, RPI's original AM station, back in the 1920's. For important away games, arrangements would be made with out-of-town personnel to provide periodic updates of the football team's progress, which would be relayed to the station and then broadcast to the Troy populace. RPI Hockey is the oldest program on WRPI, dating to 1957, and has been broadcast every season.
